Saturday, third week of Lent (Annunciation)

March 25, 2017

Blessed Solemnity of the Annunciation!

(My apologies for the delayed post Tuesday–I’d written it ahead of time & scheduled it to post,
but I must’ve gotten the date wrong. We were out of town so didn’t catch it until we got back).

…established by Pope St. John Paul II as
the Day of the Unborn Child

Today we celebrate the beginning of Our Lord’s life on earth…
it’s 9 months before Christmas, the length of a typical pregnancy.

Here are ideas for observing the day.

Isaiah 7:10-14; 8:10 (a virgin shall bear a son and name him Emmanuel)
Psalm 40:7-11 “Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will”
Hebrews 10:4-10 (Jesus came to do God’s will)
+Luke 1:26-38 (the Annunciation)

The time was full
to bursting!
The messenger was sent,
all Heaven
breathless, waiting…
powerful consent.

The turning point
of history
was in
her prayerful hands–
and safely so.

“Let it be done!”

The glory cloud
enveloped her
and He Whom all the world
cannot contain
became one flesh
with us
and took His place
the Virgin’s womb.

He made a marriage
of mankind
with God
and what He’s joined
no power
can separate.

To what use do I put the power of my consent?
Is the course of history safe in my hands?
