Monday, Third Week of Advent, Our Lady of Guadalupe

December 12, 2016

Blessed Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Day!

In case you missed it when we honored St. Juan Diego, the short version of the story
can be found here.

And the original Aztec account is kindly offered by the monks of Our Lady of Guadalupe Abbey.

She was the best
“sin-city” had to offer–
and full of harlotry–
but she took in
the messengers of God
(in Hebrew,
“messengers” are “angels”),
sheltered them
“Let it be done
according to your word”

And she was spared
with all her house
and married
Nashon’s son.

From her would come
a maiden
who received the Word
of God
within her womb
and sheltered Him
“Let it be done
to me
as You have said”

And she was saved
with all who look
to her
maternal care.

May I receive
Your messengers,
O Lord,
and lay my life
upon the line
that it be done to me
according to
Your word.

*”Rahab” means “proud”
