First Sunday of Lent

February 14, 2016

JMJ

Blessed “little Easter”!

Just as every Friday is a “little Good Friday”
(which is why we make some sort of sacrifice every Friday),
so every Sunday is a “little Easter”–even during Lent!
So let today be marked with joy–
a little celebration
in anticipation
of the feast that is to come!

Readings:
Deuteronomy 26:4-10 (bring God the first fruits of your harvest to acknowledge what He’s done for you)
Psalm 91:1-2, 10-15 “Be with me, Lord, when I am in trouble”
Romans 10:8-13 (faith in Jesus leads to salvation)
+Luke 4:1-13 (Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness)

I hunger
and I have the means
to satisfy myself
apart from God.

That’s what Eve did
and death ensued.

The Word of God
will warn us
of the poison
we can’t see
within the fruit
that looks so good.

The Word brings Life.

What hungers do I keep trying to fill with forbidden fruit?
What does God have to say about it?
