First Saturday of Passiontide

March 28, 2015

JMJ

Blessed Saturday!

Entrance Antiphon:
O Lord, do not stay far off; my strength, make haste to help me!
For I am a worm and no man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.

Collect:
O God, who have made all those reborn in Christ
a chosen race and a royal priesthood,
grant us, we pray, the grace to will and to do what you command,
that the people called to eternal life
may be one in the faith of their hearts.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Readings:
Ezekiel 37:21-28 (God will unite His people in holiness)
Jeremiah 31:10-13 (The Lord will guard us, like a shepherd guarding his flock)
+John 11:45-57 (it is better for one man to die for the people)

The flock’s been scattered.

Chasing after idols,
filth, revolt,
each sheep
has followed his own way
into the ambuscade
of sin
with no escape.

The Shepherd comes
to each by each
to win release,
to set about
the fearsome task
of loosening
the dirt and grime,
to bring them spotless
to the fold.

It’s going to be
the death of Him.

Have I fallen into the ambush of sin?
Do I appreciate how much it costs my Shepherd to rescue me from my own fault?
