Wednesday, third week of Lent
Let my steps be guided by Your promise; may evil never rule me.
Grant, we pray, O Lord,
that, schooled through Lenten observance
and nourished by Your word,
through holy restraint,
we may be devoted to You with all our heart
and be ever united in prayer.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Deuteronomy 4:1, 5-9 (God’s law gives justice, intelligence and wisdom)
Psalm 147:12-13, 15-16, 19-20 “Praise the Lord, Jerusalem”
+Matthew 5:17-19 (Jesus came to fulfill the law, not abolish it)
is within my reach.
But I can let it slip
between my fingers
and be lost
by my neglect.
It must be grasped,
put into practise
and passed on
until I can’t imagine
living any other way.
Do I expect to be saved passively?
Am I willing to work for the prize of wisdom?
