Blessed St. Damasus’ Day!

Pope St. Damasus I

You can find his story here.

Entrance Antiphon:

The Lord chose him for Himself as high priest,
and, opening His treasure house, made him rich in all good things.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect:
Grant, we pray, O Lord,
that we may constantly exalt the merits of Your Martyrs,
whom Pope Saint Damasus so venerated and loved.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Readings:
Acts 20: 17-18, 28-32, 36 (Keep watch over the flock–savage wolves will come among you)
Psalm 110:1-4 “You are a priest forever, in the line of Melchizedek”
+John 15:9-17 (This is My commandment: love one another as I love you)

God’s given us a goal
that must be guarded.

It will come under attack
within our midst,
our very hearts
are rife with wolves
which must be ruled
by power
from on high.

We must beware
their savagery,
keep watch
against their treachery.
They will not spare the flock.

The goal that must be guarded
is an atmosphere of love,
the air we breathe,
a great outpouring of ourselves
in sacrifice,
expressing Christ
to every person whom we meet.

The weapon of our guarding
is the Love He has for us
and His assurance
of assistance
when we ask.

We can be confident.
The battle is the Lord’s!

How do I respond when I find enemies to love within my own heart?
How vigilant am I in guarding my destiny of self-sacrificial love when it comes under fire?
