Thursday, first week of Advent (St. John Damascene)

December 4, 2014

Blessed St. John Damascene’s Day!

St. John Damascene

St. John Damascene

You can find his story here.

Entrance Antiphon:
In the midst of the Church he opened his mouth,
and the Lord filled him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding
and clothed him in a robe of glory.

Grant, we pray, O Lord,
that we may be helped by the prayers
of the priest Saint John Damascene,
so that the true faith,
which he excelled in teaching,
may always be our light and our strength.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Readings specific to St. John Damascene:
2 Timothy 1:13-14; 2: 1-3 (Guard this rich trust with the help of the Holy Spirit Who dwells within us)
Psalm 19:8-11 “The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart”
+Matthew 25:14-30 (Since you were faithful in small matters, enter into your master’s joy)

The treasure in your hands*
is not your own.

It is a vote of confidence.

God knows that you can handle it
if you’ll accept the hardship
it entails.

He bids you
earn the right
to share His joy!

How am I investing the resources God’s entrusted to me?
What hardships am I bearing for His sake?
