Tuesday, fourth week of Lent

April 1, 2014

JMJ

Blessed Tuesday!

Entrance Antiphon:
All who are thirsty, come to the waters, says the Lord.
Though you have no money, come and drink with joy.

Collect:
May the venerable exercises of holy devotion
shape the hearts of Your faithful, O Lord,
to welcome worthily the Paschal Mystery
and proclaim the praises of Your salvation.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Readings:

Ezekiel 47:1-9, 12 (the vision of the stream flowing from the temple)
Psalm 46:2-9 “The mighty Lord is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge”
+John 5:1-16 (the Sabbath healing of the man at the pool of Bethesda)

“Do you want to be healed?”

“I can’t”

“You couldn’t.

You’ll find that things
are different now.

The waters falling
from beneath the shoulder
of the house,
the right,
the parched sacrifice*
(the Heart of God
upon the Cross!)
have come to you,
and where they pass
they bring new life
but in exchange
you have to turn away from sin
or something worse
will come to you.

Has the passage of time and my own weakness robbed me of my hope for healing?
Am I willing to pay the price of turning away from sin?

*from the transliteration of the Hebrew of Ezekiel 46:1
