Friday, first week of Lent

March 14, 2014

JMJ

Blessed Ember Friday!

Entrance Antiphon:
Set me free from my distress, O Lord.
See my lowliness and suffering, and take away all my sins.

Collect:

Grant that Your faithful, O Lord, we pray,
may be so conformed to the paschal observances,
that the bodily discipline now solemnly begun
may bear fruit in the souls of all.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Readings:
Ezekiel 18:21-28 (repentant sinners will live, but if the righteous turn to sin, they’ll die)
Psalm 130:1-8 “If you, O Lord, mark iniquities who can stand?”
+Matthew 5:20-26 (be reconciled to each other)

When we denigrate
the wicked
we conceal the part of us
that’s just like them.

If You, O Lord, mark iniquities
who can stand?
~Psalm 130:3

And God won’t stand for that.

He calls us out.

He won’t accept a gift
that’s tainted with contempt
for one He loves.

But He rejoices
every time
we set things right–
and gives us life.

Do the faults of others inspire me to clean my own spiritual house?
