Wednesday, first week of Lent
Remember Your compassion, O Lord, and Your merciful love,
for they are from of old.
Let not our enemies exult over us.
Redeem us, O God of Israel, from all our enemies.
Look kindly, Lord, we pray,
on the devotion of Your people,
that those who by self-denial are restrained in body
may by the fruit of good works be renewed in mind.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Jonah 3:1-10 (God forgave the Ninevites, who repented on hearing Jonah preach)
Psalm 51:3-4, 12-13, 18-19 “A broken, humbled heart, O God, you will not scorn”
+Luke 11:29-32 (Jesus is greater than Jonah–so repent!)
Easter is 40 days from today!
There’s resurrection in the air…
God sends an urgent call to rise
while there’s still time.
We’ve only 40 days…
He doesn’t want us dead in sin
when crisis* comes
to seal us in our state
of life or death.
So Jonah rose
and then the king
to turn away from sin.
And he will rise again,
with all his countrymen,
to testify against
those who refuse
How is God calling me to rise and change my life today?
*krisis is the Greek word translated “judgment” in the Gospel
