Saturday after Ash Wednesday (St. John of God)

March 8, 2014

JMJ

Blessed St. John of God’s Day!

You can find his story here.

Entrance Antiphon:
Open-handed, he gives to the poor; his justice stands firm for ever.
His might shall be exalted in glory

Collect:
O God, who filled Saint Jon of God
with a spirit of compassion,
grant, we pray,
that, giving of ourselves to works of charity,
we may merit to be found among the elect in Your Kingdom.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Readings:
I John 3:14-18 (We ought to lay down our lives for our brothers)
Psalm 112:1-9 “Blessed the one who gives to the poor”
+Matthew 25:31-40 (Whatever you did for one of the least brothers of Mine, you did for Me)

A corpse can’t love.
It is indifferent to
the hunger, thirst and loneliness
of men.

We’re very much like that
when we lock up
the bowels of our heart.
We go all stiff and cold
inside.

We were not designed
to die.

We know we have stepped out of death
and into life
when we pour out our hearts
in acts of love
that meet the needs of man
and overflow
into the Heart of Christ.

That life lives on.

What areas of my life are stiff and cold, locked up against the needs of others?
God, grant me resurrection!
