Saturday, Third week of Advent (December 21, O Rising Dawn)

December 21, 2013

Blessed St. Peter Canisius’ Day!
(and Ember Saturday)

You can find his story here.

O Rising Dawn,
Splendor of eternal light
And Sun of justice
Come to give light to those sitting in darkness
And in the shadow of death

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things concerning the churches.
I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star.”
~Revelation 22:16

(see also Isaiah 9:1, John 8:12 & 12:46, Psalm 19:6-7)

Entrance Antiphon:
The Lord and Ruler will be coming soon,
and His Name will be called Emmanuel,
because He will be God-with-us.

O God, Who for the defense of the Catholic faith
made the Priest Saint Peter Canisius
strong in virtue and in learning,
grant, through his intercession,
that those who seek the truth
may joyfully find You, their God,
and that Your faithful people
may persevere in confessing You.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

2 Timothy 4:1-5 (persistently proclaim the Gospel in all circumstances)
Psalm 40:2,4,7-10 “Here I am, Lord; I come to do Your will”
Matthew 5:13-19 (Let your light shine)

Your light must shine!

It won’t always be easy.
You will be put to the test
by those who only listen
to the things they want to hear,
who have no fear
of God,
no hunger for the truth
they badly need.
O do take heed!
and patiently pursue
these poor deluded souls
with holiness
despite the suffering
they cause.

Be self-possessed,

Behold I come
to do Your will
~Psalm 40:8, 9

Your light must shine!

Do I give up on people when they resist God?
Do I put my light under a bushel when I meet with opposition?
