Thursday, second week of Advent
Blessed Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe!
You can find the story in the post about St. Juan Diego.
A great sign appeared in the sky,
a woman clothed with the sun,
with the moon under her feet,
and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
O God, Father of mercies,
who placed your people under the singular protection
of your Son’s most holy Mother,
grant that all who invoke the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe,
may seek with ever more lively faith
the progress of peoples in the ways of justice and of peace.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
(Opening Prayer from today’s Mass)
Since Our Lady of Guadalupe is Patroness of the Americas,
the readings today are specific for the feast for us:
Zechariah 2:14-17 (God is coming to dwell among us)
OR: Revelation 11:19, 12:1-6, 10 (the ark of the covenant: a woman clothed with the sun)
Judith 15:9, 13:18, 19 “You are the highest honor of our race”
+ Luke 1:26-38 (the Annunciation)
OR: + Luke 1:39-45 (the Visitation)
Fear not, Mary,
for you have found favor with God
See, I AM coming to dwell among you,
says the Lord
Though you wail aloud in agony,
in labor to give birth,
before the fearsome fiery dragon,
hurling stars upon the earth,
there’s no need to fear his power.
He will writhe beneath your feet
as you welcome God’s indwelling:
“Let it be done unto me.”
Greater is He that is in you
than he that is in the world
~I John 4:4
Do I trust God to defend me as I surrender to what He asks of me?
How can I increase my awareness of His desire and ability to rescue me?
