Thursday, first week of Advent
You, O Lord, are close, and all Your ways are truth.
From of old I have known of Your decrees, for You are eternal.
Stir up Your power, O Lord,
and come to our help with mighty strength,
that what our sins impede
the grace of Your mercy may hasten.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
(Opening prayer from today’s Mass)
Isaiah 26: 1-6 (the just will live in a protected city, but the lofty will be trampled underfoot)
Psalm 118:1, 8-9, 19-21, 25-27 “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord”
+ Matthew 7:21, 24-27 (build your house on God’s will, so it will stand)
Jesus said to His disciples,
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord’
will enter the Kingdom of Heaven,
but only the one who does the will of My Father in Heaven
Not everyone who says,
A strong city have we;
He sets up walls and ramparts to protect us
…but only those
who stay within the walls
will be protected
when the enemy attacks…
and the attack is constant
in this world.
What form is the attack of sin taking in my life today?
Which protecting walls of God’s commands am I inclined to leave?
