Monday of Holy Week

March 25, 2013

JMJ

Blessed Monday!

Entrance Antiphon:
Contend, O Lord, with my contenders; fight those who fight me.
Take up Your buckler and shield; arise in my defense, Lord, my mighty help.

Collect:
Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that, though in our weakness we fail,
we may be revived through the Passion of Your Only Begotten Son.
Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Readings:
Isaiah 42:1-7 (the Messiah comes to rescue, not destroy)
Psalm 27:1-3, 13-14 “The Lord is my light and my salvation”
+John 12:1-11 (Mary anoints Jesus’ feet)

We have been blinded by our fear,
in dungeons
deep with darkness;

we’re smoldering wicks
about to die,
bruised reeds
about to break.
We are intent
on sheltering
our final breath.
We are like Judas,
clutching
for a coin.

That’s our mistake.

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
~Psalm 27:1

When we stretch out our hands
before the Lord,
pour out our treasures
at His feet
in love,
He Who stretched out
the heavens
takes our hand:

Thus says God, the Lord,
Who created the heavens
and stretched them out,
who spreads out the earth with its crops…
I have grasped you by the hand
~Isaiah 42:5, 6

His hands spread wide
(the crucified)
He succors us
until we overflow:

I formed you,
and set you as a covenant of the people,
a light for the nations,
To open the eyes of the blind,
to bring out prisoners from confinement,
and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness
~Isaiah 42:6-7

When we expose
our helplessness
before the Lord
His radiance grows
and darkness can be seen
for what it is:
a Judas kiss
that cannot conquer
tenderness.

When you’re afraid, do you clutch tightly to what little you have left
or do you pour yourself out at Jesus’ feet
in confident expectation of His tenderness toward you?
