First Friday of Passiontide
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in distress.
Deliver me from the hands of my enemies and those who pursue me.
O Lord, let me never be put to shame, for I call on You.
Pardon the offenses of Your peoples, we pray, O Lord,
and in Your goodness set us free
from the bonds of the sins
we have committed in our weakness.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
O God, who in this season
give Your Church the grace
to imitate devoutly the Blessed Virgin Mary
in contemplating the Passion of Christ,
grant, we pray, through her intercession,
that we may cling more firmly each day
to Your Only Begotten Son
and come at last to the fullness of His grace.
Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen
Jeremiah 20:10-13 (Jeremiah is threatened, but he trusts God to protect him)
Psalm 18:2-7 “In my distress I called upon the Lord, and He heard my voice”
+John 10:31-42 (the Jews want to kill Jesus for claiming to be God)
The enemies are closing in
Terror on every side!
Denounce! Let us denounce him!
The Jews picked up rocks
to throw at Jesus
But He is not deterred.
He will not let
make Him back down.
He makes them think:
I have shown you many good works from My Father.
For which of these are you trying to stone Me?
and only slips away
when He has made
and they need time
to cool off.
He will be back.
He will not give up easily
His quest to save their souls
He loves us far too much
Do you give up the quest to save souls when people become hostile?
Are you afraid God might give up on you?
