First Wednesday of Passiontide
My deliverer from angry nations, You set me above my assailants;
You saved me from the violent man, O Lord.
Enlighten, O God of compassion,
the hearts of Your children, sanctified by penance,
and in Your kindness
grant those You stir to a sense of devotion
a gracious hearing when they cry out to You.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Daniel 3:14-20, 91-92, 95 (Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery furnace)
Daniel 3:52-56 “Glory and praise forever!”
+ John 8:31-42 (we are slaves of sin, but Jesus has come to set us free)
The heat is on
The pressure to forsake
Just how free are you?!
Are you free enough
for your beliefs?
To let the world say what it will
while you obey
the Voice of God?
Or will you bow
with all the rest
not wanting to expose yourself
not standing up against the music
that would sweep your soul away?
Does what you say
match what you do?
Are you a son of Abraham
or just in word?
Is sin enslaving you?
If you’re not free
you’re just the one
came to release!
Allow His truth
to burn away
the shackles of your sin.
Remain in Him–
you shall be free indeed!
What enslaves you–what do you wish was different about your life,
but you just can’t seem to break free of it?
What does God have to say about it?
