First Monday of Passiontide
Blessed Cyril of Jerusalem’s Day!
You can find his story here.
This is the steward, faithful and prudent, whom the Lord set over His household
to give them their allowance of food at the proper time.
O God, who through Bishop Saint Cyril of Jerusalem
led Your Church in a wonderful way
to a deeper sense of the mysteries of salvation,
grant us, through his intercession,
that we may so acknowledge Your Son
as to have life ever more abundantly.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
I John 5:1-5 (Whoever obeys God’s commandments conquers the world)
Psalm 19:8-11 “The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart”
+John 15:1-8 (Whoever remains in Me will bear much fruit)
God’s words are pruning shears.
When we submit
they prune away
the dead wood of our lives,
the weak and spindly shoots
that take our energy
away from His designs.
But we still won’t bear fruit
unless united to the vine,
unless His power flows through us
and gives us life.
He promised to remain with us–
we must remain with Him,
a wild branch engrafted
on rich root
(cf. Romans 8:17ff),
our hunger feasting
on the Eucharist,
for the victory.
This is God’s glory
and our joy.
How often do you apply God’s pruning shears to your life?
How often do you digest Love?
