Monday, first week of Lent

February 18, 2013

JMJ

Blessed Monday!

Entrance Antiphon:
Like the eyes of slaves on the hand of their lords,
so our eyes are on the Lord our God, till He show us His mercy.
Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy.

Collect:
Convert us, O God our Savior,
and instruct our minds by heavenly teaching,
that we may benefit from the works of Lent.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
(Opening prayer from today’s Mass)

Readings:
Leviticus 19:1-2, 11-18 (specific ways to love our neighbor)
Psalm 19: 8-15 “Your words Lord, are spirit and life”
+Matthew 25:31-46 (what we do to others, we do to God)

God identifies with us!

I assure you,
as often as you did it for the least of My brothers
you did it for Me
-Matthew 25:40

He wants us to identify with Him.

Be holy,
for I, the Lord your God,
am holy
-Leviticus 19:2

Like father, like son.

We are God’s children now
-I John 3:2

Like God, like us.

So what is God like?

He respects property.
He speaks truth.
He pays promptly,
protecting the disadvantaged.
He judges honestly,
favoring neither the strong nor the weak.
He speaks well of us,
provides for our needs,
comes to our rescue
and forgives us
(when we don’t deserve it).

In short,
He loves us
as He loves Himself.

We’ve got it good!

This is life.
This is the identity
of Heaven.

Take it up and pass it on!
