Fourth Sunday of Advent (O Emmanuel)
Since Christmas is so close, you might want to check out
customs for celebrating Christmas in the home.
Our King and Lawgiver,
The Awaited one of the peoples
And their Savior
Come to save us, O Lord, our God
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son and his name shall be called Emmanuel. (see also Genesis 49:10, Isaiah 32:1, Psalm 72, Matthew 1:22, Luke 1:71-75, Psalm 136:3, Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:6)
Drop down dew from above, you heavens,
and let the clouds rain down the Just One;
let the earth be opened and bring forth a Savior
Pour forth, we beseech You, O Lord,
Your grace into our hearts,
that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ Your Son
was made known by the message of an Angel,
may by His Passion and Cross
be brought to the glory of His Resurrection.
Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever.
Micah 5:1-4 (From you shall come forth the ruler of Israel)
Psalm 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19 “Lord, make us turn to You;
let us see Your face and we shall be saved”
Hebrews 10:5-10 (Behold I come to do Your will)
+Luke 1:39-45 (And how does this happen to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?)
If only we believed…
How blessed we would be!
Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled.
This faith is not a passive thing.
It opens itself wide
(as Mary did)
to all that God desires to give
–His very Self!–
then goes in haste
(as Mary did)
to journey far,
to be His hands and feet,
to do His will.
compares with this.
Sacrifice and offering You did not desire…
behold, I come to do Your will
-Hebrews 10:5, 7
It demonstrates a confidence in God
that treads down all the tempter’s lies
that God’s not good enough
to take care of His own.
It does not hesitate
to pay the highest price
assured that God won’t be out-given
[Abraham]reasoned that God was able to raise from the dead,
and so he received Isaac back as a symbol
This is the faith God plants in us
when He comes down to dwell in us
to be Emmanuel.
We have the seed…
we must give birth
Then we’ll know peace.
