First Friday of Passiontide
Pardon the offenses of Your peoples, we pray, O Lord,
and in Your goodness set us free
from the bonds of the sins
we have committed in our weakness.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
O God, who in this season
give Your Church the grace
to imitate devoutly the Blessed Virgin Mary
in contemplating the Passion of Christ,
grant, we pray, through her intercession,
that we may cling more firmly each day
to Your Only Begotten Son
and come at last to the fullness of His grace.
Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen
(Opening Prayer for today’s Mass)
Jeremiah 20:10-13 (Jeremiah is threatened, but he trusts God to protect him)
Psalm 18:2-7 “In my distress I called upon the Lord, and He heard my voice”
+John 10:31-42 (the Jews want to kill Jesus for claiming to be God)
There is no middle ground with Christ.
or cast your stone–
but count the cost!
Faith in this life will cost you dear,
will bring you terror on all sides,
the snares of death,
but from them all
God will deliver you.
You will be safe
Praised be the Lord, I exclaim,
and I am safe from my enemies
Be not afraid
-Deuteronomy 1:29, 7:18; Matthew 14:27, 17:7, 28:10; John 14:27, etc.
The lack of faith
may not cost much
but in the end
you won’t succeed.
Your unrelenting failure,
God won’t be mocked.
What price are you willing to pay for eternal deliverance?
Does the way you live reflect your answer?
Have you ever thought of hell in terms of shame and failure?
